In 1989 inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen founded the organization “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” (FIRST). Kamen noticed that the number of American students in the science and technology field was widely decreasing, and he wanted to inspire young adults to join the vast field of science and technology. Kamen’s vision is “to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.” Since then, Kamen has spread FIRST  into the lives of over 300,000 people in 56 different countries. Since then, Dean Kamen has spread FIRST into the lives of over 210,000 kids, 90,000 mentors, in over 56 countries.
